MANGALDAI: Joint Secretary of the State Election Department, Bishnu Dutta Sharma, who was also a former journalist, passed away in GMCH on Sunday night following a cardiac arrest. He was 51.
Sharma –a former journalist of repute in the erstwhile Ajir Asom of The Sentinel group and Natun Dainik - suddenly developed chest pain at around 11 pm and was immediately taken to GMCH where he breathed his last. His mortal remains were taken to his native village Barhampur in Nagaon district where his last rites were performed. He leaves behind his parents, wife Sunita Sharma, two sons and a host of relatives.
Sharma started his career in Assam Civil Service in 1997 as an Attached Circle Officer at Mangaldai Revenue Circle and later became the Circle Officer in Revenue Circles at Sipajhar and Kalaigaon and Election Officer of Darrang district. His service as the Executive Officer of Mangaldai Municipality Board will always be remembered by the citizens for his extraordinary service with dedication to maintain the cleanliness of the town. He also rendered his service as the Election Officer in Jorhat and Lakhimpur districts. Later, he settled at Bongaon in Beltola area of Guwahati. The untimely demise of this honest, sincere and efficient officer not only of the Election Department but also of the Assam Civil Service, has cast a pall of gloom.
