DIGBOI: Rupam Deodhai Baruah, a former media person of Margherita associated with a vernacular daily of Assam, has been booked for his involvement in cybercrime after making defaming remarks against Nagaon Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi on social media recently.
Baruah, currently the media cell advisor of Margherita BJP MLA Bhaskar Sharma, had allegedly shared a Facebook post through Bhaskar Sharma Fans Club account with derogatory remarks about Pradyut Bordoloi. Though he is yet to be arrested, yet after a FIR was lodged against him, the Margherita Police finally registered a case (Case No: 306/19) and Baruah has been prosecuted u/s 67 of the IT Act and 294(A), 500/506 of the IPC, informed a Congress leader of Margherita.
Demanding the immediate arrest of Baruah, Manoranjan Borgohain, the spokesperson of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, Upper Assam, soon after lodging the FIR, told The Sentinel that a minimum decorum needed to be maintained by the user while using a public domain before making derogatory comments against a senior leader of the State.
