HAFLONG: Former MLA Samarjit Haflongbar has written to the Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma for taking initiative to restore peace in the areas of Lanka, Hojai as the possibility of worsening the situation is still prevalent.

Drawing his attention on the present situation in the areas of Lanka, Hojai after the incident that took place in the evening of August 26 at Ranger Bill of Diyungbra in Dima Hasao, Haflongbar stated that it may worsen the situation as some communal tension is going on between the certain communities. Slogans against a particular community and the entire Dima Hasao district were being raised in the areas, besides warning of road blockade by the group was also given.

Further, it is pertinent to say that the aforesaid group stopped the vehicles coming from Dima Hasao as a whole and charged them of the unwanted incident.

Initiative for restoration of peace through public meeting in the area in order to avert the misunderstanding between the communities, and bringing back of normalcy providing adequate security arrangement in the area were very much appreciated.

On the contrary, people of the two districts i.e. Hojai and Dima Hasao along with bordering West Karbi Anglong district have been communicating and maintaining brotherhood relations amongst themselves.
