KOKRAJHAR: Former Lok Sabha MP and president of All India Bodo People's National League for Statehood Movement, SK Bwiswmuthiary on Wednesday said it was important to form coalition government of United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) and Bodoland People's Front (BPF) for the greater interest of local and regional issues.

Talking to media persons at Kokrajhar on Wednesday, Bwiswmuthiary said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was violating the democratic norms in BTC and had hijacked the public representatives who recently won in the last BTC general election. He said that soon after the declaration of result of 4th BTC election, the BJP, which was the third largest party, had hijacked the UPPL, GSP and Congress candidates and confined them in a hotel at Guwahati city and they were now being confined in Assam Bhavan, Shillong, which was not at all a democratic norm. He also said that the BJP had been trying to murder democracy by misusing power.

Bwiswmuthiary said that the BPF got the highest number of elected representatives in the recently concluded BTC election but the Governor did not invite the BPF to form government. Instead, the BJP and UPPL alliance was given priority by violating the norms. He called upon the leaders of UPPL to form coalition government with the BPF in BTC to ensure protection of local issues.

The former MP hailed the judgment of Gauhati High Court that stayed the functioning of the UPPL-led government in BTC and said the floor test for showing majority number by UPPL and BPF should have been held after seven days.

On the other hand, Bwiswmuthiary hailed the cabinet decision to form the Boro Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC) and said the government should not play political game by saffronizing the leaders and supporters of UBPO (United Bodo People's Organization) who had struggled for BKWAC. Over 700 members of UBPO joined the BJP a couple of months back.
