DIGBOI: Former ward commissioner of Ward No 8, Paragdhar Bhuyan along with his accomplice was arrested by Digboi Police on Friday evening.

The arrest of the accused was initiated following an FIR lodged by Shipra Mallick, the chairperson of Digboi Municipal Board (DMB) alleging Bhuyan (45) of the Panbari area and his accomplice Ranjit Borgohain (27) of Bapoapung area of house-trespass, assaulting a public servant on duty and intentionally causing a 60-year old night watchman grievous injury, besides causing damage to property on Friday evening within the premises of the Digboi Municipal Board.

According to the chairperson, both the accused entered the premises and assaulted the night chowkidar, snatched the bunch of official keys, damaged the furniture in the office and continued similar commotion at her residence too in Muliabari area, hurling abusive words while entering her residence.

“The case is motivated or self-designed or might have been committed in a state of intoxication, but I am not going to tolerate mischief,” said Shipra Mallick, adding, “I know I might have a tough time as I am streamlining the system in the office which might unearth anomalies and irregularities during the process. Another FIR is in the pipeline against a former employee of the organization for his direct involvement in committing the act of forgery,” said chairperson while talking to the correspondent on Saturday afternoon.

Based on case no 283/2019, both the accused were prosecuted u/s 448/353/325/384/427/34 IPC and produced before the SDJM Margherita on Saturday.
