GUWAHATI: Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary laid the foundation stone of Tea Park at Chhaygaon on Friday. This Tea Park, with state-of-the-art infrastructure, will be set up as per the model of Dubai Tea Park. To be built on an area of 112 bighas of land, the total project cost of the Tea Park is Rs. 2572.29 lakhs. The Tea Park would house all necessary components including tea auction centre, tea museum, warehousing facilities, processing facilities like tea grinding, blending, packaging and other utility services under one roof.
The location of the park is at Choudhuripara village of Chaigaon Revenue Circle, Kamrup (Rural), Assam. The location is approximately 55 km from Guwahati city and 35 km from LGBI airport, 7.5 km from nearest railway station and 3 km from the National Highway.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said, "Assam has its own identity in the global market for its 150 years old tea industry. The Tea Park will be a fillip to the tea industry of the State as it will bring a sea change in the direct export of Assam Tea. Besides generating employment, the Tea Park will also provide ample opportunities for business growth of small tea growers in Assam."
The minister stated that the tea industry is presently facing lot of challenges. He hoped that the Tea Park will create a benchmark in the production, value addition, packaging and branding of Assam tea in the international market, stated a press release.
