SILCHAR: Four students from Barak Valley including three from Cachar district has made it to the merit list of the HSLC exam this year. Sinam Jaiphabi Chanu of Holy Cross School in Kabuganj, took all the limelight as the small suburban village girl secured 4th rank with 591 marks out of 600. Three other girls figured in the ninth position. Ritaja Deb of Collegiate School, Dikshita Bhattacharya of Holy Cross School of Silchar town and Sukunya Das of Karimganj’s Rowland Memorial High School got 586 marks each.

Among the three districts of the valley, however percentage of successful candidates was the highest in Hailakandi with 79.2 per cent followed by Karimganj (69.92%) and Cachar (63.99%).

Meanwhile, Chanu said, she used to study eight hours per day. Chanu’s school was eight km away from her home, and she used to paddle bicycle daily to attend class. She wished to study software engineering, Chanu added.
