BAKSA: Following the request of the Bhutan India Friendship Association (BIFA), considering the request of Emanuel Mochahary, MLA of Tamulpur and advisor of BIFA, the Royal Monetary Authority of Bhutan accorded approval to the four commercial banks to facilitate exchange of Bhutanese currency to the Indian traders of Assam. The large number of small and medium businessmen availed the banking services at the border gate as per the COVID-19 preventive protocol. The cash will be kept in quarantine for the period of three days. Bank of Bhutan Ltd shall remit the amount through RTGS into the Indian banks account as designated by the depositors. The use of Bhutan Ngultrum and Indian Rupee is an age old trading practice along Indo-Bhutan Border. The Indian traders from N K Darranga, Darrangamela and across the border were unable to avail banking facilities due to the closure of international border because of COVID-19 pandemic. Indian traders offered hearty greetings to Emanuel Moshahary and BIFA as well as Royal Monetory Authority of Bhutan.
