Four-day long Environmental awareness programme by NHPC concludes

LAKHIMPUR: The four-day long environmental awareness programme-cum-plantation drive by NHPC's 2000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project (SLHP) concluded on Wednesday with the valedictory function of the programme held at the NHPC Office Complex. The programme was organized as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav from June 5 to June 8.

The valedictory function of the programme was held on June 8 at the NHPC Office Complex. Under this drive, distribution of plants and plantation of valuable tree saplings was organized in collaboration with the Forest Department and Circle Office, Dolungmukh. The representatives and heads of 14 villages falling under Dolungmukh circle were given fruit-bearing and timber plants like Teak, Hollock, Titassopa, Khoks, Lemon, Orange, Arecanut etc. for distribution and planting in the villages.

Vipin Gupta, the Executive Director, Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, in his address praised the cultural tradition of Arunachal Pradesh and mentioned the commitments of NHPC towards environmental safeguards. The programme concluded with plant distribution and plantation drive around the office complex by the officers and villagers. The celebration of World Environment Day 2022 commenced on June 5 with plantation programme at Herbal Garden of the Project Township, plantation of fruit bearing and medicinal trees were done by Biswajit Basu, Director (Projects), NHPC, Vipin Gupta, Executive Director and all the General Managers of Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project.

On June 6, environment related paintings/poster competition for the students of Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Dollungmukh, Arunachal Pradesh was organized followed by the plantation drive. Continuing with the environmental awareness programme, a speech competition was also organized by the Ladies Club of the project led by its president Seema Gupta. An environmental awareness programme and plantation drive were undertaken at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Gerukamukh on June 7.
