LAKHIMPUR: The illegal mining of river resources continues in Lakhimpur district even after the arrest of the corrupt Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Lakhimpur Forest Division by the Anti Corruption Bureau on charges of taking bribe.
Violating the provisions of the Forest Act, a section of dishonest contractors has been running the illegal business of river resources like sand gravels and pea-gravels by carrying them in dumpers without due challans. On Thursday, the public of Chandmari village under Saboti area handed over several such dumpers carrying river resources without challans to the Forest Department.
In the meantime, the Lakhimpur Forest Range office seized four dumpers for violating the due regulation. At present, the Forest Department has kept the seized dumpers in the office campus of Lakhimpur Forest Range Officer. In this regard, Range officer Bob Christy Kutum expressed his concern over the transportation of river resources from valid mahals without challans. The District Transport Department has also scrutinized the due documents of the dumpers.
