Four ULFA (I) rebels held, four minor boys rescued by Tinsukia Police

TINSUKIA: A team of Tinsukia Police and Army based on specific intelligence input, apprehended four ULFA (I) militants and rescued four minor boys from the clutches of the rebels after three days of intensive operation in certain pockets in Tinsukia district on Wednesday.

Police sources said the rebels were inducting new recruits to the outfit since the past couple of months, adding that all the rescued boys were Class IX standard students and they had been lured with the promise of a better prospect.

The militants have been identified as Diganta Gogoi alias Diganta Asom, Rana Handique alias Kokoi, Khogen Moran and Abhijit Gogoi who was picked up from Makum, Kakopathar and Digboi areas in the district and two pistols- 7.65 and .22 mm - besides live ammunition, incriminating documents, ULFA flags and jungle boots were recovered from their possession. The rescued boys have been handed over to the respective families, informed police source.
