MANGALDAI: AMC Alumni Association and Academic Forum, Guwahati, in collaboration with Darrang Cancer Centre, Dr Anjana Phukan Memorial Foundation, Guwahati and Joint Director of Health Services, Darrang, conducted a free health check-up and screening camp on breast and cervical cancer here at the Darrang Cancer Centre on Sunday.
The camp aimed at providing free specialized medical attention to the cancer and non cancer patients of the region belonging to the economically weaker section of the society. Dr Sangit Dutta, head of the Medicine Department, GMCH, Dr Jina Bhattacharya, Head of the Hematology Department, GMCH, along with specialists in gynecology, pediatrics, eye, etc. from Guwahati and Mangaldai treated more than 200 registered patients.
Cataract, presbyopic detection, blood sugar and hemoglobin test and distribution of free medicines also featured in the camp. The camp was inaugurated by Darrang Deputy Commissioner Munindra Nath Ngatey in presence of Joint Director of Health Services, Darrang, Dr Nirmal Kumar Beria, Superintendent of Darrang Cancer Centre, Dr Syed IftikarSobhani and others. An awareness meeting on tobacco control and the adverse effects of tobacco use was also held.
