JAMUGURIHAT: The award distribution ceremony of freedom fighter Prasad Singh Subba Memorial Academy was held at Chandmari, Tezpur on Sunday.

The Academy, in collaboration with Kabi Bhakta Rai Smriti Mandap, Siliguri, had organized an award distribution ceremony with a day-long programme at freedom fighter Prasad Singh Subba Memorial Hall with Chandramoni Upadhyaya in the chair. The programme began with hoisting of the institutional flag by Chatraman Subba, the president of Freedom Fighter Prasad Sing Subba Memorial Academy, Assam, which was followed by floral tribute and lighting of ceremonial lamps by Ganesh Limbu, a forest official.

The first open session was inaugurated by Lalit Subba. Prakash Subba, the president of the reception committee, gave the welcome address while critic Gyan Bahadur Chetry highlighted the life and ideology of freedom fighter Prasad Singh Subba as an appointed speaker. 'Mahakabi' Mohan Dukhun (Siliguri) graced the occasion as a chief guest. He delivered a keynote speech on the modern trends of Nepali literature and writing skills. He further appealed to people to follow the path shown by freedom fighter. Kaju Devi.

In the open session, the 'Freedom Fighter Prasad Sing Subba Memorial Literary Award-2020' was presented to Laxminarayan Valla (New Delhi), Bidyapati Dahal (Udalguri) and Guruprasad Upadhayaya (Jamugurihat). The memorial literary award comprises a cash award, a citation paper, a shawl and a gamosa. Laxminarayan Valla addressed the gathering on behalf of the award recipients. The Prasad Sing Subba Memorial Sewa Sanman was presented to Lakhi Khapung and Deepak Subba.

The second session began with Gyan Bahadur Chetry in the chair. An original Nepali poetry book Atmanusandhan, composed by Anjan Baskota, was unveiled by Mahakabi Mohan Dukhun at the beginning of the second session. Chatraman Subba, the president ofFreedom Fighter Prasad Sing Subba Memorial Academy, Assam briefed about the objectives and mission of the academy, which was followed by ceremonial distribution of the Kabi Bhakta Rai Smriti Sahitya Puraskar. The recipients of the Kabi Bhakta Rai Smriti Sahitya Puraskar are Dr. Khemraj Nepal (Biswanath), Amar Baniya Lohoro (Sikkim), Hem Joshi (Shillong), Khemananda Mishra (Tezpur), Basundhara Sarma (Tezpur), Bishnu Shastry (Khanamukh), Chatraman Subba (Balipara) and Anjan Baskota (Biswanath). The Kabi Bhakta Rai Smriti Sahitya Puraskar carries a cash award, a citation paper, a shawl and a gamosa. A research book Puspasagaram, edited by Dr. Dhundiraj Upadhayaya, was released by Dr. Khem Raj Nepal.
