LAKHIMPUR: The 50th Fresher's Social of Lakhimpur Commerce College welcoming the newly-inducted students for the academic session of 2022-23 was celebrated on Friday with fun fare and calls for imbibing Indian values in education and curricula.
The celebration of the programme began with the inauguration of the college wall magazine 'Pratidhwani' by Vice Principal Gopal Kumar Chetry in the morning. This was followed by an intimate meeting between the newcomers and existing students of the college which was conducted by Dr. Sikhamoni Borgohain, Senior Professor in Economics. The main function of the fresher's social was inaugurated with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Dr. Muhidhar Pujari, president of the Governing Body of the college. The open session of the fresher's social was chaired by Dr. Lohit Hazarika, Principal of the college.
The Principal of Panigaon OPD College, Dr Suresh Dutta attended the session as the chief guest. In his address Dr Dutta asserted that Lakhimpur Commerce College had the potential of becoming an autonomous institute in commerce stream for its strategic location in the heart of North Lakhimpur town. He urged the students to persue their studies by keeping in the mind of the present importance of commerce education.
Debakanta Bonia, retired teacher of Lakhimpur Girls' HS School attended the meeting as appointed speaker. In his address, Bonia stressed upon the need of imbibing the Indian traditional values in education and curricula and said that ethical, moral and spiritual build up of character were key ingredients in achieving good results not only individually but for the society and the entire world. The session was also addressed by Munindra Saikia, secretary of the Alumni Association of Lakhimpur Commerce College and an industrialist. Various cultural programmes were performed by students on that occasion. Popular singer Rakesh Riyan performed in the cultural function of the fresher's social of Lakhimpur Commerce College.
