TINSUKIA: A huge amount of money earmarked for the construction of roads in Amarpur, the only land-locked panchayat under Sadiya subdivision in Tinsukia district, has allegedly been swindled by the road contractors even as the Chief Minister, while laying the foundation stone of eight roads in November 2017, assured before a large gathering that the roads to be constructed at the cost of Rs 17 crore under PMGSY would be completed on time.

One such road is the 8-km long Gohpur-Chiling Lachon Road, the work order of which was awarded to MH Alidh Agency with the tender value of Rs 6.83 crore. Though construction of the road began on December 12, 2017, and was supposed to be completed within two years, the local people alleged that only 1 km of the road so far has been metalled and rest still remains graveled. Alleging anomalies in the construction, the local people said that poor quality materials were used in the construction of culverts which failed to withstand heavy load.

Local people have urged the local authority to initiate suitable action against the contractors and to complete the stipulated work before the onset of monsoon.
