Ganja smuggler shot at in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: The police in Kokrajhar seized contraband ganja and shot at a ganja smuggler in the leg. Police sources said that in connection with the recovery of 41 packets of ganja from a Bihar-bound Scorpio (BR11 V-7551) on Wednesday, a follow-up search was carried out based on the confession of the driver, Mukesh Kumar (28) of Bhagalpur, Bihar, at Bishmuri Out Post area where more ganja packets were believed to be hidden.

While searching for the consignment, Mukesh Kumar allegedly tried to snatch the weapon of one constable and attempted to escape from the scene. The I/O of the case fired one round in the air to stop the accused from fleeing but he did not stop. In order to stop him, another round was fired at his leg. One bullet hit his leg and he was immediately brought to Kokrajhar RN Brahma Civil Hospital for treatment. Police sources said some miscreants set the Scorpio on fire, which was kept at Karigaon, to destroy the evidence.
