DIGBOI: At times while Assam Police has been aggressively continuing its operation against land mafia across the State of Assam, Digboi Police team on Saturday evening arrested Krishna Mahato, the government Gaon Bura of Borbil village under Digboi Police station in Tinsukia district.
Confirming the development, Margherita SDPO Partha Pratim Das said that the Gaonbura was apprehended this evening on various charges based on complaints involving his indulgence in land sale cases and forgery and others. "We would investigate the matter considering all pros and cons of the allegations and would produce the accused before the court on Monday with the findings whatsoever," informed the official.
It is pertinent to add here that several complaints starting from the police level to minsters were lodged over a period of time against the said village headman for his undersirable involvement in the land sale and purchase proceedings even resorting to unfair and aggressive approaches.
Following unbusting the network of land mafias recently across the state, this is the maiden case in Digboi. Meanwhile, it is hoped that the police in its investigation would go into the depth of the case and connect all dots to crack upon all those involved with the Gaonbura in land dealing cases.
It may be remembered here that the police had apprehended more than 500 land mafias from several districts of Assam on September 21 highest being 52 accused arrested in Kamrup (R), and 17 in nearby Dibrugarh district after 5 were arrested in Tinsukia district. Tinsukia now stands at 6 cases while 3 cases recorded in Sadiya.
