SIVASAGAR: In commemoration of National Youth Day, the Gargaon College NSS Unit, in collaboration with IQAC, Eco Club, El Jeffa Foundation, New Delhi and All Assam Mahila Parishad, conducted a webinar on Thursday with the aim of sensitizing the students about the philosophies, ideas and principles of Swami Vivekananda, one of the greatest philosophers and spiritual leaders.

National Youth Day is celebrated annually to honour the contributions and to propagate the philosophy and ideals of Swami Vivekananda. At the outset, Dr Rimjim Borah, NSS Programme Officer, outlined the objective of the celebration of the day. She said that the main purpose behind the celebration was to enlighten the youth through the teachings and ideologies of the eminent Indian spiritualist, philosopher and thinker, Swami Vivekananda.

The webinar conducted on the occasion was inaugurated by the Principal of the college, Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta. While addressing the participants, Dr Mahanta highlighted the significance of the observance of the day which is celebrated annually to honour the great spiritual leader, Swami Vivekananda. He said that Swami Vivekananda had revived the Indian classical consciousness, awakened the spirit in Indian youth and created a new ray of hope. Swami Vivekananda was instrumental in introducing philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga to the world, he added. He urged the students to take the inspiration from the life and thoughts of Swami Vivekananda.

Speaking further, Dr Mahanta said that the youth should work hard and contribute to their country's overall development by upholding Vivekananda's ideals and principles.

The resource persons, Sheikh Raisha Tabassum, founder of El Jeffa Foundation, New Delhi, and Dipti Borah, President of All Assam Mahila Parishad, presented their views and addressed the teachings of Swami Vivekananda and the importance of those in daily lives. Keeping in view the philosophy and significant contributions of Swami Vivekananda towards Indian society, Sheikh Raisha Tabassum shared her experiences related to various fields of service to mankind. In her motivational speech, Dipti Borah asked the students to follow their dreams and to strive to achieve excellence in their respective fields.
