SIVASAGAR: The premier educational institution of Assam, Gargaon College organized an induction programme in collaboration with the Gargaon College Students' Union on September 10 for its newly-admitted students of the 2022-23 session.

The event was kick-started through the lighting of lamps by the dignitaries. Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, the Principal of Gargaon College, enthralled the audience with his eloquence and wisdom. In his inaugural address, he congratulated and welcomed the new comers to the greater Gargaon College fraternity. He pointed out the achievements that Gargaon College has garnered over the years.

He encouraged the students to dream and strive towards transforming those dreams into a reality. He opined that one dream of an individual is conjoined with a plethora of other dreams. Our dreams are in some way or other associated with the dreams of our society. The students who have instilled the values taught by their parents in their hearts cannot go astray in their journey of life. He urged them to persevere for excelling in their chosen pursuits. He also pointed out the nuances between wisdom and knowledge and that a knowledgeable person may not necessarily be a wise person.

Dr Mahanta opined that the definition of success needs to be balanced with the principles of happiness. He urged the students to inculcate human values and search the meaning of life. The president of the governing body of the college, Biman Chandra Baruah opined that the pursuit of education cannot be complete without the gurus.

Noted author, Tulashi Sensua graced the event as the chief guest. He reminisced his vibrant days in Gargaon College as a faculty member and shared his valuable experiences with the newcomers.

Dr Pobon Gogoi in his speech highlighted the purpose of conducting such an induction programme. He urged the students to maintain punctuality and discipline and follow the rules and regulations laid down in the Charter of the College. Vice Principal of Gargaon College, Dr Rina Handique appealed to the freshers to perform their duties towards their college, parents and society at large. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the Photography Competition organized on the eve of the World Photography Day. The general meeting was followed by exciting cultural events performed by the students of the college.
