SIVASAGAR: The Department of Mathematics, Gargaon College, in collaboration with IQAC of the college conducted a programme on life skills on Saturday with a view to promote and enhance the skills of the students. The programme was inaugurated by Dr Rina Handique, Vice Principal of Gargaon College.
In her inaugural speech, Dr Handique spoke about the importance of life skills which improve students’ ability to meet their goals and to deal with a variety of situations enabling them to take reasonable decisions about their lives.
Dr Kabita Phukon, Assistant Professor and Head of the Mathematics Department, Gargaon College in her welcome address spoke about the importance of developing the basic skills to effectively deal with the issues and problems and to meet the challenges of every day life. Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, noted columnist and Principal of Gargaon College, appreciated the efforts of the organizers for conducting such a programme to enhance the skills of critical thinking and creativity of the students. Dr Surajit Saikia, Assistant Professor of the department of Economics and IQAC coordinator of Gargaon College, acted as resource person of the programme. Dr Saikia highlighted the significance of development of life skills which are essential to promote mental well being as well as competence in the young people to face the realities of life. He added that life skills help students to understand their abilities, develop their confidence and enhance their skills and competencies.
The programme was attended by more than 100 students.
