Gauahti High Court issues notice to Nagaon District Commissioner

NAGAON: The Nagaon district unit of the All Assam Other Backward Classes Association, a state-level parallel organisation to OBC, is allegedly issuing caste certificates to people who are not OBCs through irregularities and unfair means. This has drawn sharp reactions from the people of other backward classes in the district.

The Gauhati High Court directed the Nagaon District Commissioner to verify a caste certificate that the district unit of the organisation issued to one Vaishakha Chandra. The office of DC, Nagaon, sent a letter to the Nagaon Circle Officer to clarify the certificate and asked the official concerned to submit a report in this regard immediately, sources said.

While speaking to this correspondent, Nagaon Circle Officer Eshan Singh said that his office received a letter from the office of district commissioner, Nagaon, and was directed to verify the matter as early as possible as asked by the Gauhati High Court a few days ago, and his office submitted the report in this regard. He, however, said that the parents of the girl could not submit sufficient supporting documents for the certificate issued by the organization.
