SILCHAR: After two failed attempts in Silchar court, Jogendra Pandey, the SBI Manager (Audit) was now denied bail in the Gauhati High Court. On Friday night the High Court portal confirmed the bail rejection following the hearing on Wednesday. Pandey was arrested by Silchar police on January 9 on charges of abetment to suicide of Kuldeep Dasgupta, the young manager of SBI Kabuganj branch. Kuldeep’s body was found hanging inside the store room of the bank on January 7. His mother Aloka Dasgupta lodged an FIR alleging that Pandey used to harass Kuldeep during the audit process. On January 9, Pandey was arrested by police from Silchar railway station as he was leaving the town without any reserved ticket. SP Nomal Mahato later informed the media that the police had recovered a number of evidence that suggested that Pandey, who arrived in Silchar on January 1, had pressurised Dasgupta for immoral gratification. Subsequently Pandey’s bail petition was rejected by Silchar court twice. Later he moved the Gauhati High Court.
On Wednesday, Advocate B K Mahajan, the counsel of Pandey argued in front of the High Court that there was no clear evidence of abetment to suicide against Pandey. Further they pleaded for bail on health ground. The defence attorney for the Dasgupta family, Saumen Choudhury, countered that Pandey's medical records came from Patna or Guwahati, not Silchar Medical College and Hospital, where he was admitted following his detention. The High Court reserved its decision for two days and subsequently on Friday the bail petition was rejected.
