HAFLONG: In a significant move, the Gauhati Court dismissed the Public Interest Litigation no PIL/51/2020 against the Chief Executive Member of NC Hills Autonomous Council, Debolal Gorlosa by an order no. GAHC010114852030 dated 01.02.2021, informed advocate Dayamani Sing at a press meet held at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhavan on Wednesday.
The press meet was attended by BJP district president Donpainan Thaosen, Executive Member Samuel Changsan and BJP general secretary Sujay Langthasa. In the PIL, the petitioners Samarjit Haflongbar, former MLA and CEM, Daniel Langthasa, elected member of N C Hills Autonomous Council, and Dethang Naiding, former president of Jadikhe Naisho Hosom, had sought before the court for a direction in the nature of mandamus to debar the CEM Debolal Gorlosa from functioning as Chief Executive Member of N C Hills Autonomous Council and also for a direction that the powers be assumed by the Secretary to the Governor of Assam in terms of the provisions which are given in the 6th Schedule to the Constitution of India.
BJP general secretary Langthasa said that there had been unfounded allegations against the present CEM made by some politicians to mislead the people and also to stand in the way of development and prevailing peace in the district. But the High Court verdict had brought clarity in the minds of the people of the district.
EM Changsan, while expressing his happiness over this verdict, said that Samarjit Haflongbar, former MLA and CEM, and Daniel Langthasa, elected member of N C Hills Autonomous Council, should have knowledge about autonomous council rule.
BJP district president Thaosen said that the hidden agenda of some politicians was to derail or disturb the pace of development and also to confuse the people of the district. He said, "The BJP is committed to development and peace in the district and we will continue working for the people."
