GUWAHATI: Gauhati University (GU) has announced that the institution will be implementing National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 based courses from the 2023-24 academic session. Four Year Under Graduate Program (GU-FYUGP) will be implemented by the university and all affiliated colleges of Gauhati University. GU-FYUGP will offer two types of degrees, namely Bachelor’s Degree in a Stream and Bachelor’s Degree in a Discipline.

Gauhati University will offer 39 Bachelor’s Degrees in various streams and disciplines. It will also offer 28 standalone degrees including Bachelor’s Degree in Vocational Studies. The Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) are in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 approved by the Academic Council under the chairmanship of the Vice Chancellor, Gauhati University in which Professors of the Gauhati University and representatives of Principals and teachers of affiliated Colleges of Gauhati University were also present.

A meeting to discuss the matters pertaining to the successful implementation of the Four Year Under Graduate Program (GU-FYUGP) for the principals of provincialized colleges of Gauhati University will be held on May 22. In line with NEP 2020, there will be options for multiple entries or exits, a Certificate or a Diploma or a Degree with or without a Major or a Degree (Honours) or a Degree (Honours) with Research at various levels in all affiliated colleges under Gauhati University and at Gauhati University campus.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Pratap Jyoti Handique informed that GU was ready to start the FYUGP at its campus in Jalukbari from August 2023 and a new building exclusively for FYUGP named as NEP Facilitation Centre would be used to take the classes. FYUGP is expected to start at the campus in Arts streams with 200 students, Science streams with 200 students, Applied Sciences with 30 students, and Integrated B. Com with 70 students.
