Numaligarh: A giant Peacock Soft-Shell turtle (Nilssonia Hurum) was recovered by forest personnel from Jugal Aati village near Kaziranga National Park on Wednesday.

Forest officials received information that a turtle had got stuck in a fishing net in a small lake inside the village. A team of forest personnel reached the spot and recovered the giant turtle weighing more than a half quintal. The turtle sustained minor injuries while it was tangled in the fishing net and was taken to the CWRC facility for primary medical treatment. Tarun Gogoi, Beat Officer of Panbari Beat, said that after required treatment, the turtle would be released at Sohola Beel under Agoratoli Range at Kaziranga National Park.
