KOKRAJHAR, Oct 19: Global Handwashing Day, a global advocacy dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding about the importance of hand washing, was observed by the Believers Eastern Church Diocese of Bongaigaon in different locations recently.
More than 80 parishes in Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Dhubri districts held handwashing washing activities and created awareness among nearly 5,000 people in a day. Sisters of Compassion reached the villages of Jitpur and Bashbari in Karigaon area under Kokrajhar district and Bridge of Hope, a child care project, organized awareness camp with some 200 children and villagers of Mosalabari.
Further the Children and Teen ministry of the Diocese led by ba Kumar Basumatary distributed thousands of handwashing leaflets across parishes and participants. Alisa Barjo, accompanied by Ramba Basumatary and Ransai Basumatary, as part Compassion Service, arranged a one-time meal for 200 villagers of Jitpur on World Food Day.
Proper method of handwashing was demonstarted by Nijwra Bala Brahma, a staff nurse of Kamalasing SHC Hospital Gossaigaon. Rev.Fr. Ajay Tulsiary, the Vicar General of Bongaigaon Diocese, urged people across parishes to practice simple healthy habits daily.
