Guwahati:One of the hostel of Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and Dr. B Barooah Cancer Institute has been declared as containment zones after two COVID-19 positive cases were reported from each of these two places. All services in the Cancer Institute will remain closed for 28 days from today. Only emergency services will be available, hospital authorities said.
State health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited GMCH this morning to take stock of the situation and arrangements made to contain further spread.
The No 5 PG hostel of GMCH has been declared as the containment zone after a boarder of the hostel tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday. Dr Likithesh Dutta who hails from Karnataka is a PG student of GMCH and was in COVID-19 service in the hospital from May 2.
The Kamrup (Metro) district administration has also declared Dr B Barooah Cancer Institute (BBCI) as a containment zone after a family member of a worker died of COVID-19 on Thursday.
