GOALPARA: Goalpara College has adopted an innovative policy in order to curtail the use of fossil fuel and pollution inside its campus. The college has declared every Thursday as ‘No Vehicle Day’, thereby restricting the entry of petrol and diesel-run vehicles inside its campus.

On Thursday, Dr Subhash Barman, principal of Goalpara College, initiated the new system. “Goalpara College is trying to set an example by practically getting involved in the curtailment of emission of harmful gases and retaining the all-round green environment inside its campus.” On the other hand, Dulal Baruah, Coordinator of IQAC and a professor of the Botany department, warned about the global warming and the need of greenhouse effects.

Jyotish Das, politician and former principal of the College, also spoke on the occasion and encouraged the college teachers to go ahead with the experimental projects for the benefit of the society as a whole and the students in particular. Students and senior professors were present on the occasion. The college is scheduled to observe an alumni meet on May 21.
