Golden Jubilee celebration of Lakhimpur Commerce College begins

The closing ceremony of the golden jubilee celebration of Lakhimpur Commerce College got underway on Friday with rich tributes paid to the great persons who contributed immensely towards its foundation and other programmes including symposiums attended by academicians, policy makers and ministers from the state and national level.

LAKHIMPUR: The closing ceremony of the golden jubilee celebration of Lakhimpur Commerce College got underway on Friday with rich tributes paid to the great persons who contributed immensely towards its foundation and other programmes including symposiums attended by academicians, policy makers and ministers from the state and national level.

The first day of the three day extravaganza began with the inauguration of the main gate of the Golden Jubilee celebration, by Dr. Kiran Hazarika, Pro Vice Chancellor of IGNOU, New Delhi. This was followed by the hoisting of the flag by Dr. Mukunda Rajbangshi, the president of the Golden Jubilee Organizing Committee along with the hoisting of the fifty flags by fifty eminent persons to mark the fifty years of the college. The other dignitaries that hoisted the flag included Union Minister of State for Education and External Affairs Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, Assam Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Padma Shri Jadav Payeng, President of the College Governing Body Dr Muhidhar Pujari, ex-Principals Dr. Hemanta Kumar Baruwa, Dr. Mukut Chandra Baruah, Associate Dean of Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science, Uma Tamuli, Principals of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomus) Dr. Biman Chetia, of LTK College Dr Bubul Saikia, of Lakhimpur Girls College Dr Surajeet Bhuyan, of Lakhimpur Kendriya Mahavidyalaya Dr Golap Sarma Baruah, Chairman of Assam Higher Secondary Education Council Rukma Gohain Baruah, president of the Lakhimpur Commerce College Alumni Association Raj Kumar Saraf and Lohit Hazarika, the Principal of the college. This was followed by the tribute paying ceremony led by Vice Principal Gopal Kumar Chetry. All the personalities that contributed to the college from its inception were given glowing tributes on that occasion.

Then a national symposium on “Transformation of Higher Education in the Light of New Education Policy” was held as part of the programmes of the opening day of the Golden Jubilee celebration. The symposium was inaugurated by Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Minister of Education, Government of Assam and chief patron of the Golden Jubilee Celebration Committee of Lakhimpur Commerce College. Chaired by Dr. Mukunda Rajbangshi, the symposium was attended by Dr. Rajkumar Rajendra Singh, Education Advisor to Assam Government Dr Nani Gopal Mahanta, Padma Shri Jadav Payeng, Majuli Cultural University Vice-Chancellor Dr Nirode Kumar Baruah, Assam Science and Technology University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Narendra S. Chaudhary, Pro Vice Chancellor of IGNOU-New Delhi Dr Kiran Hazarika, President of All India Principal’s Council Dr. Sanjay Vakil, Secretary of Assam State Principal’s Council Dr. Ranjan Kalita, Secretary of Assam College Teachers Association Dr. Jayanta Baruah and Dr Anil Saikia, ex-Principal, Moran College. The souvenir of the Golden Jubilee, Swarnajyoti was inaugurated by Dr. Nani Gopal Mahanta, Education advisor to Government of Assam.

A drawing competition for school children was also organized on that occasion. In the afternoon another symposium on Higher Education Institute and NEP-2020 was organized for that occasion. The seminar was chaired by Dr. Sanjay Vakil, President of All India Principal’s Council. The first day’s programme concluded with a cultural nite by artist Mahendra Hazarika.
