BONGAIGAON: A Golden Langur died on Friday due to an electric short circuit in the Khagarpur area of the Bongaigaon district. It was suspected that the Golden Langur came down from Khagarpur hills and died when it came in contact with the electric wire.
Talking about the incident, Mahidhar Ray, a social worker of Bongaigaon area, said that Golden Langurs were dying every now and then in the area. "We have demanded many times that no naked electric wire should pass through the area as this puts animals at risk. However, the authority concerned has not taken any action. The Golden Langur is a rare species. Steps must be taken for its preservation," Ray said.
