DHUBRI: Golokganj legislator Ashwani Roy Sarkar visited grocery and vegetable markets of Dhubri town to check soaring prices and called up officials of the Food and Supply department to take action against the vendors on Tuesday. Sarkar was accompanied by Dhubri district unit BJP president Dr. Debamoy Sanyal, general secretary Bhagirath Ojha and a host of party workers. Talking to The Sentinel, the legislator informed that after having received several complaints of soaring prices of essentials commodities, he decided to visit the market and found the allegations true.

“Onion price is fixed at Rs 22 to Rs 24 per kg in the retail market but most of the vendors are taking Rs 28 to Rs 30. I asked the Deputy Director of Food and Civil Supplies to look into the prices of essentials food items, including grocery,” Sarkar said.

Meanwhile, activists of Dr. Pannalal Oswal Memorial Committee went to the market places and distributed hand sanitizers among the roadside vendors. “We got the sanitizers made by an institution and distributed them while appealing to people to adhere to the norms of health and hygiene to keep coronavirus away,” said secretary general of the memorial committee, Bimal Oswal.
