KOKRAJHAR: Chief Executive Member (CEM) of BTC, Pramod Boro asserted that only good teachers could build a good and decent society and thus, teachers had the huge responsibility of giving the right direction to society.
Boro, while speaking to teachers during the ceremonial distribution of appointment letters to TET qualified candidates for secondary schools at a function held at Bodofa Cultural Complex, Kokrajhar on Thursday, said that there were problems in the education sector but remedial measures were being taken to solve those problems. "There was lack of mathematics and science teachers in many schools. Most of the Bodo medium schools lacked science and mathematics teachers. We could not get proper education in these two subjects during our times," he said, adding that giving quality education was a dilemma in the past due to lack of sufficient teachers and hence provincialized and venture schools fared poorly.
The CEM said, "Since education is the backbone of the society, we are giving the highest priority to the education department in BTR and initiatives are being taken to remove all shortcomings related to education." He said that they had distributed appointment letters to TET qualified teachers in primary and upper primary schools and another 1,420 TET qualified teachers were being given appointment letters in secondary schools in BTR to meet the shortage of teachers. He also said that there were no anomalies in giving appointment letters to teachers and if any such information was received, action would be taken against the officers and officials.
Referring to teachers as the first pillar of education, Boro said that connection and correction amongst the teachers, guardians, students and the government officials was important to ensure good education to students. He said that performance of private educational institutions was far better despite their teachers receiving small incentives while government or provincialized schools always showed poor result due to lack of moral responsibility of the teachers and guardians. He also called upon the government officials of the department concerned to take proactive responsibility to perform better by providing all requirements.
Boro said that general education should not be the only option but one could go for alternative options of livelihood. He called upon all to apply innovative ideas in different fields as the region had ample opportunities and resources.
