BISWANATH CHARIALI: The story of Gopal Nag of Chandamari Bangali village under Halem revenue circle in Gohpur subdivision in Biswanath district is one of courage and self-confidence. A road accident in Jorabat brought misery to Gopal's life in 2014. Gopal was the sole bread earner of his family. In that accident, Gopal lost the lower part of his body. He had to spend around 18 months in a hospital in Guwahati.

Although Gopal's life was saved by doctors, he was almost paralyzed for the rest of his life. His grief was not over. Gopal had the responsibility of his 12-member family on his shoulders. Gopal started farming. He started to grow seasonal vegetables such as mustard, tea, black lentil, potato and brinjal. Apart from this, Gopal also started fish farming in his pond.

However, Gopal is in dire need of government assistance. Apart from getting some fertilizers and seeds from the Department of Agriculture now and then, he has not been able to reap the benefits of the schemes of the State and Central governments.
