Gorkha Samaj lends support to UPPL candidates in all 40 seats of BTC election

UDALGURI: A representative meeting of Gorkha community was held at Kajalgaon on August 21 to discuss the glaring issues of Gorkha people residing in the proposed BTR region. The meeting was presided over by Uttam Pradhan. The meeting discussed the prospects and problems of Gorkha community people in the BTR region. They discussed the D-voter and NRC issues. Moreover, the representatives also discussed the socio-economic, political, land, educational and cultural problems that had to be resolved through bilateral discussion with the government. After a prolonged discussion, a committee named Gorkha Samaj BTR was formed with Uttam Pradhan as president, Dipak Nirola as secretary general, Dimbeswar Upadhyaya and Tara Subedi as vice-presidents and Churamoni Sarma and Pankaj Sarma as secretaries.

The meeting formally adopted a resolution to support the UPPL candidates in all 40 seats of BTC in the ensuing election. The committee also decided to form district committees of Gorkha Samaj in Udalguri, Baksa, Chirang and Kokrajhar. The committee will be full-fledged in the next six months, said general secretary Dipak Nirola.
