Sonitpur: Gorkha community's special festival Tihar or Bhai Dooj or Bhai tika was celebrated at Charidwar, Garmara area of Sonitpur district of Assam on Monday.

The holy festival of Tihar was organized in a grand manner by the Gorkha Student Union (GSU) in collaboration with Balipara Anchalik Samiti.

Apart from the Gurkha community of the state, several other members of various parties such as the All Assam Student Union (AASU), The All Koch-Rajbanshi Students Union (AKRASU), All Bodo Student Union (ABSU), and many others attended the occasion.

They had also organized a cultural program where Deusi, Bhaili, and other such performances were held.

The Gorkha Community was very happy as the Government declared this festival a state holiday.

Tihar is the biggest festival of the Gorka community and is also known as Yampanchak, celebrated in a grand manner by the Nepali people.
