Gossaigaon Auto drivers’ Association burns effigies of Nitin Gadkari, Chandra Mohan Patowary

Gossaigaon: The activists of Gossaigaon Auto drivers’ Association burnt the effigies of Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and State Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary on Thursday.

A group of 30 to 40 auto drivers burnt the effigies at NH-31c near the over bridge. The protesters said that they were unhappy with the different stance that the transport department had adopted towards auto drivers and e-rickshaw drivers. “Auto rickshaws have all proper valid documents whereas most e-rickshaws do not have proper documents but they ply on the road freely but auto rickshaws can move only to a distance of 15 to 20 km,” said the protesters.

They further stated that in this regard they had already met the Kokrajhar DC and DTO. They even alleged of a secret understanding between the e-rickshaw drivers, owners and Gossaigaon Traffic Police due to which no action was being taken against e-rickshaws.
