BARPETA: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday inaugurated the newly-built Chandi Barua Bhavan and a swahid bedi encompassing the martyrs of the Assam Movement at Howly. At the same time, Chief Minister Sonowal laid the foundation stone of an AdaraniToron, a welcome gateway to Howly, to be built by the Assam Tourism Development Corporation for Rs. 40 lakh on the National Highway, stated a press release.

Chandi Barua Bhavan of Howly has been reconstructed by the Cultural Affairs Department involving a financial outlay of Rs. 2 crore. Moreover, the swahid bedi has been built using the untied fund of the Chief Minister.

Speaking at a programme at Howly organized by the Cultural Affairs Department in association with the district administration, Barpeta, Chief Minister Sonowal, while paying rich tributes to the martyrs of the Assam Agitation from Howly -MadhuBaishya and others, said that the people of Howly should be committed to keep the town dignified, clean and green. He also called upon the parents to help their wards to imbibe love and respect for ChandiBarua and help them to grow up culturally. Stating that in contrary to discord and disharmony created by the Congress and Left parties, the present BJP-led State Government had been working to bolster the development of the State taking people belonging to all communities and ethnicities on board. He also said that though some vested interest groups were conspiring to derail the rate of development, the State Government however, remained committed to expedite the development of the State. He also said that in the last four years, the government had taken several steps for the infrastructural development of the State.

Chief Minister Sonowal also said that since Independence though several governments were in power in the State, the development of the areas on the north bank of the Brahmaputra remained lopsided. However, the present BJP-led government in the State took several steps for the all-round development of all areas belonging to Barak, Brahmaputra, hills and plains.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister of State (i/c) Naba Kumar Doley gave a brief snapshot of all the steps that the State Government had taken to enrich the art and culture of all groups of people of Assam. He also stated about different awards and cultural centres that the State Government was instituting in the name of great personalities of the State.

While speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister's Media Advisor Hrishikesh Goswami expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister SarbanandaSonowal for taking initiatives for the all-round development of Howly. He, at the same time, urged upon the people not to pay any heed to the false propaganda being circulated by some vested interest groups against the government. He said that to safeguard the interests of the indigenous people of the State, the present State government had taken several steps.

Chairman of ATDC, Jayanta Malla Baruah and Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta, Munindra Sharma also spoke on the occasion. MLA Gunindra Das, Director, Cultural Affairs Department, Bishnu Kmala Bora, Managing Director of ATDC, eminent sculptor BirenSinha and a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

Later at a different programme, Chief Minister Sonowal laid the foundation stone to mark the beginning of the construction work of JaniaXatra to be built with financial outlay of Rs 50 lakh. At the same programme, Sonowal also released Na-Ghosa composed by Sri SriPurushuttam Thakur and edited by executive editor of AsomiyaKhabar, Biswajit Das.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister gave a brief snapshot of all the steps that the Government of Assam had taken for the preservation of xatras, devalayas, namghars and temples. In this context, Sonowal mentioned about the one-time grant given to 8,000 namghars in the State.
