Governor Gulab Chand Kataria holds meeting regarding construction of sports university

DIBRUGARH: Governor of Assam Gulab Chand Kataria visited Dibrugarh recently and held a meeting with all the officials of the departments concerned regarding the construction of Sri Sri Aniruddha Dev Sports University at Balijan, Chabua.

The DC and other administrative officers welcomed Governor of Assam Gulab Chand Kataria at the airport and then proceeded towards the conference hall of Airport to hold meeting with all the officers of the departments concerned regarding various issues of construction of Sri Sri Aniruddha Dev Sports University at Balijan Pani Era village, Chabua.

Chabua MLA Ponakan Baruah, Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Assam, Meenakshi Sundaram, Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Assam, Sports and Youth Welfare Department, Faruk Alam, Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu, Superintendent of Police Shwetank Mishra, and other officers were present in the meeting.

Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Assam, Meenakshi Sundaram said that the Governor of Assam intended to complete the project of Sri Sri Aniruddha Sports University so that the upcoming generation could get trained in various sports activities.

Governor Kataria said that the youth of Assam were very talented and also very good in sports activities and Sri Sri Aniruddha Sports University would be the best platform to boost their physical talent so that they could outshine nationally as well internationally.

The DC made it clear that there are no land issues and Governor Kataria asked the officials to coordinate and design the Master plan without any further delay. The Governor asked the officials to expedite the progress of construction of Sri Sri Aniruddha Dev Sports University and asked the Engineer to make the demarcation and boundary lines according to the design of the Master Plan as soon as possible.

The total area of the plot is 200 bigha, 2 katha and 7.6 lessa sanctioned for the construction of the University and the boundary on the north side is 726.17 m, south side is 762.36 m, East side is 416.2 m and West side is 329.59 m. Regarding land filling boundary wall, box culvert and drain and iron gate, previously work was allotted to M/S Macrocosm Builders but the contractor failed to start the work despite repeated request and hence the work was rescinded in March 31.

The tender process is almost completed. After attending the meeting at the conference hall, the Governor proceeded to Balijan Pani, Chabua to visit the site of Sri Sri Aniruddha Dev Sports University and physically checked the Masterplan and design of the Sports University and explained how to start the work. Later, the Governor proceeded to Naharkatiya to visit the Namphake Buddhist Monastery. He also visited Assam Petrochemical Limited, Namrup and reviewed the function of 500 TPD Methanol Plant and also held a meeting with the officers and engineers of APL Namrup.

Before wrapping up his tour, Governor Kataria also visited Khanikar Stadium. Later during discussion with the Principal, DHS Kanoi College, Dr Sashikanta Saikia, it was resolved that Sri Sri Anirudha Deb Sports University would carry out its courses from the DHS Kanoi College till the new building of the university will come up at its scheduled place.
