JAGIROAD: “Non-violence and patience make people more generous and their impact is stronger than chemical bombs. Mahatma Gandhi was the only leader in the world who spread the message of non-violence,” said Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi on Wednesday at Jagiroad.
Prof.Mukhi, while addressing a gathering on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, organised by Morigaon district administration in the Jagiroad College auditorium, said that Mahatma Gandhi was the only leader whom the whole world respected as a legendary person. He called upon people to follow the ideology of the great leader. The Governor added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swacch Bharat Abhiyan, construction of public toilets and environment preservation were the dreams of the great leader. He stressed the need for development of the farmers and as such he assured necessary help from the Raj Bhavan. He also assured development of Morigaon district and announced its adoption.
Deputy Commissioner of Morigaon, Rituraj Bora and Morigaon MLA and Fishery Development Board chairman Ramakanta Deuri also stressed the need to follow the principles of Mahatma Gandhi for a better India. Morigaon Superintendent of Police Swapnanil Deka, and chairman of Jagiroad Development Authority, Dibyajit Neog were also present.
The Governor lit the ceremonial lamp and offered tributes to Mahatma Gandhi in the Jagiroad College auditorium. Earlier in the morning, the Governor offered floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Mandap near the PWD inspection bungalow followed by guard of honour and all-religion prayer. The Governor inaugurated a plastic bank and announced ban on use of plastic.
