GUWAHATI, Sept 5: "Teachers play an important role in shaping the future of the students as well as in building their character," said Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi on his visit to Assam Jatiya Bidyalaya at Noonmati here on Monday.
Addressing the students and teachers on the auspicious occasion of Teachers' Day the Governor said, "Teachers Day is celebrated to show our gratitude towards our teachers. The contribution of teachers in building the nation is commendable. Today is a very important day for the Guru and the disciple. The Guru-Shishya tradition is an important and sacred part of Indian culture. Guru has a special place in the life of every human being. It is the Guru, who makes a person a true human being. Building a child's personality is a very vast and difficult task which is taken care of by a Guru only."
Prof Mukhi also said, "An ideal teacher has a special place in the society. Our former President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, whose birthday is celebrated as the Teachers' Day, was a great philosopher and also an ideal teacher. He had a deep love for teaching. He had all the qualities of an ideal teacher."
The Governor also stated that it is a matter of happiness that under the New Education Policy, extensive changes have been made in the education system from school education to university level. He also said that Assam Jatiya Bidyalaya would also be able to adopt the new education policy and will always strive towards making its children "resourceful citizens".
The Governor thanked the teachers for their immense role which help in shaping the future generations and also urged upon them to illuminate the society with the light of knowledge with new enthusiasm and energy. Noted educationist Dr.Tarakeshwar Choudhury, guest teacher also spoke on the occasion, stated a press release.
