GUWAHATI: The state cabinet took several important decisions, including that flat owners would not require Government's permission for sale and purchase of flats in Assam.
This
came as a major relief for the consumers who earlier had to wait for months in
order to complete the necessary official formalities in order to get
registration of their property.
Shortly after the cabinet meeting was over, this was informed by the Guwahati Development, Urban Development and Irrigation Minister Ashok Singhal.
In the press conference, the Urban Development minister Singhal told the media, "The procedure to register flats in Guwahati and other urban cities and towns of Assam was a very tedious one. It was a time consuming and lengthy process as the applicant's file was first submitted at the DC's office who then forwards it to the ADC and from there, it would require a series of permissions from various other departments."
"The process generally would take more than three months and in case of situations where the model code of conduct has been applied or in cases where the concerned officers receive additional duties, the process used to stretch up for a few more months extra. The state cabinet today took the decision of removing the unnecessary hassles keeping in the mind of the consumers for the ease of business."
Minister Ashok Singhal also pointed out that as of date in Guwahati city alone, 1,700 applications for registration is still pending.
The cabinet's decision has come as a respite for both the consumers and the real estate sector that has now overcome a major hurdle in order to speed up the process of purchasing and selling of flats.
A leading city based real estate agent said, "The tedious process of registration was a major hindrance to business as clients would often be dissatisfied about the delays in registration process even after timely completion of the properties and projects. This delay in shifting to their own flats created a lot of troubles for us. Thankfully the government today took a very optimistic and positive decisions for the real estate and the consumer fraternity to prosper in times to come."
