Asserting that a prospective groom lying about his religion to marry a Hindu girl is equal to a breach of trust, Assam health and finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has decided to crack down on the "emerging trend" of "marriages by deception' on Wedcnesday.
While addressing the media, Sarma said about the "breach of trust" in marriages of Hindu girls when it comes to marrying Muslim boys.
Speaking at the event, Assam state minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said "Many Muslim boys create Facebook accounts with Hindu names and post pictures of themselves at temples. Once a girl gets married to one such boy, she discovers that he is not from the same religion. This is a not a bona fide marriage but a breach of trust,"
In his speech, he also clarified that Assam government was not against inter-faith marriages as long as they took place out of free will and not deception.
He also siad that the state government has decided to act tough on such marriages in order to protect "our daughters and sisters" from being tricked into an inter-faith releationship.
Sarma further added "Next 5 years we'll try to see that all marriages take place out of free will and there is no deception. We will fight against any such marriage which has been solemnised on the basis of fraud,"
It is to be mentioned that earlier, while attending a BJP mahila morcha, Sarma had stated the time had come to start a new fight against love jihad on Assam's soil"
