A grand harvest programme of Sali paddy using mini combine harvester was conducted at the farmers’ crops of Bamungaon field under Khagarijan block by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagaon on Thursday.

NAGAON: A grand harvest programme of Sali paddy using mini combine harvester was conducted at the farmers’ crops of Bamungaon field under Khagarijan block by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagaon on Thursday.

The programme was initiated under Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project (APART). The programme anchored by Bishnu Narayan Phukan, was initiated with an inaugural speech of Dr Niranjan Deka, principal scientist and Head, KVK, Nagaon. In his speech, Dr Deka welcomed all the distinguished guests and other participants to the unique harvesting programme and explained about the objectives of the programme and the benefit of using the mini combine harvester. Dr Vipin Kumar, associate scientist, IRRI stressed upon the objectives of the various works done under the APART, IRRI project and the various mechanization introduced under the project and also intimated about the benefits of using the machineries.

Ranjan P Deka, DAO, Nagaon, Kanchan Pator Bordoloi, ZPC Khagarijan block and hundred farmers including both male and female farmers, representing different blocks of Nagaon district, participated in the programme.

Handling and demonstration of the machine was performed by Priyanka Deka, project associate, Rajib Panging, APS, APART of KVK, Nagaon which was followed by an ‘on spot’ harvesting of the paddy (Bahadur Sub1 variety) using mini combine harvester operated by Pabitra Kumar Nath, RT, APART and Janmejay Biswal, RT, IRRI. All the participants were overwhelmed with the demonstration of the mini combine harvester. The programme was concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr N Deka, Head, KVK, Nagaon.
