KOKRAJHAR: Great literary genius, former president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) and prominent thinker of the Bodos, Brajendra Kr. Brahma was remembered by the BSS on Saturday on the occasion of his first death anniversary held at RN Brahma Bhavan at Kokrajhar.
Synchronizing with the observation of his death anniversary, the BSS observed the day as 'Khontai Sun', the day of poems, at Kokrajhar where around 100 poets participated. The Head of the Department of Bodo of Gauhati University, Dr. Anil Boro gave the closing remarks after the conclusion of the poets' meet which was chaired by the president of BSS, Taren Boro.
Talking to reporters, BSS president Taren Boro said that Brajendra Kr. Brahma was not only a great literary genius but also led the BSS for two terms with spectacular development of Bodo language and literature. He said that Brahma had a lot of literary creations to his credit and his contribution to Bodo literature was outstanding, adding that Brahma received the Tagore Literary Award as well as the Sahitya Akademi Award.
Meanwhile, former Rajya Sabha MP UG Brahma, who also recited his poem in the programme, said that the Bodos celebrated 'Ishan Mashahary Day' every year to remember him as an iconic romantic poet but in the case of Brajendra Kr. Brahma it was different as his creative works were based on reality and social transformation. He said that Brahma's ideals and creations would always be remembered by the upcoming generations.
Earlier, the president of the BSS hoisted the organizational flag and paid rich floral tribute at Brahma's portrait. Before that the president of the Kokrajhar district BSS, Baneswar Basumatary hoisted the organizational flag at the burial ground at Salani Batabari in Dotma in the morning while son of Brajendra Kr. Brahma, Tulsi Brahma paid floral tribute at his father's portrait.
