Group of 55 tourists from Kolkata visit to explore history of Dhubri district

DHUBRI: A group of tourists from Kolkata led by Dr. Kamal Oswal visited Dhubri district to discover the iconic heritage sites and explore the history of Dhubri town and district on Saturday and Sunday.

Oswal, a reputed radiologist in Kolkata hailing from Dhubri town, completed his HSLC examination from Sishu Pathsala Higher Secondary School here way back in 1975. He paid his first visit to this alma mater with his friends and colleagues.

A warm reception was accorded to Dr. Oswal and his group at the auditorium while Principal of the school, Dr. Debasish Saha in his brief welcome address conveyed his heartiest thanks to Dr. Oswal for his visit to the school.

“It gives us immense pleasure when alumni well established in different fields visit our school. Dr. Oswal’s visit to the school too will be recorded in the visitors’ book and I, on behalf of the institution, wish him to scale higher in his profession and social life,” Dr. Saha said.

Dr. Oswal in his speech recalled the sweet memories of the school which shaped his academic life. The visitors in their two-day visit, not only visited the heritage, historical and religious sites of Dhubri town but also enjoyed boating in the River Brahmaputra and spent time walking on the sand bars.

The entire tour programmes were organized by Dr. Panna Lal Oswal Memorial Committee and its secretary-general, Bimal Oswal said this tour and visit was a huge success as altogether 55 visitors came from Kolkata and visited the places of tourist interests, some of which are as old as 400 years.

“Some infrastructures from amenities point of need to be developed in the district to attract more tourists and steps are being taken by the government in this direction,” Oswal said.
