KOKRAJHAR: Minister of Handloom and Textiles, Sericulture, Soil Conservation and Welfare of Bodoland department and Guardian Minister of Chirang district, Urkhao Gwra Brahma on Wednesday held a detailed review meeting with the officials of Chirang district administration and departments concerned regarding the current flood situation in the district and the relief distribution measures being taken by the district administration, in the presence of Principal Secretary to the Government of Assam and Guardian Secretary of Chirang district, Rajesh Prasad. The minister visited Kisa Bazar and Muddle Kajalgaon before the meeting.

The meeting was attended by Rajya Sabha MP Rwngwra Narzary, local MLAs Jayanta Basumatary and Ajay Kumar Roy, and other dignitaries. The meeting started with a power-point presentation presented by Chirang Deputy Commissioner Narendra Kumar Shah, through which he highlighted various damages caused by floods and erosion as well as various measures so far taken by the district administration for relief and rehabilitation, erosion protection and repairing of damaged infrastructures.

The Guardian Minister and the Guardian Secretary of the district then reviewed the works done by various departments like Health and Family Welfare, PWD, Social Welfare, Panchayat, WATWR Resources and Rural Development, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Agriculture and Public Health Engineering departments during the floods and post floods in the district.

They directed the departmental officers to conduct proper field assessment before submitting any reports to the government so that the government could take necessary steps for the flood victims and take long-term measures to solve the problem.

They also directed the district administration to take immediate measures to construct houses for the people who had lost their houses and were displaced due to the fury of floods. In the meeting, minister Brahma urged officials of all departments in the district to act as a team to deal with floods and other natural calamities. He also urged the district administration to keep adequate relief items in stock and the heads of all departments to be always ready for the second wave of floods in the district.
