Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani Re-arrested In New Case After Getting Bail

Kokrajhar: Just after getting bail in a case over tweets on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani was re-arrested in a new case on Monday.

However, in what case and under what sections, the Gujarat MLA has been re-arrested is yet to be ascertained.

Mevani was first arrested on Thursday from Gujarat's Palanpur by a team of Assam police after a local BJP leader from Assam's Kokrajhar filed a complaint against him.

While speaking to the reporters, over his arrest, Mevani alleged that it was a conspiracy by the BJP and the RSS.

''They have done this to destroy my image. They have been doing this systematically. They did it to Rohit Vemula, they did it to Chandrasekhar Azad, now they are targeting me,'' he added.

He has been charged with criminal conspiracy, offence related to the place of worship, outraging religious feelings, and provocation that might lead to a breach of peace.

''Mevani's tweets are likely to incite a section of the masses belonging to a certain community,'' BJP leader Arup Kumar Dey alleged in his complaints.
