GUWAHATI: The Governor of Assam took a day-long visit of the Darrang district of the state on Tuesday. He visited the site of the Assam Skill University in Mangaldai and several other locations during this visit.

During his visit to the district, Gulab Chand Kataria reviewed the progress of the university project. He also held a discussion with the Vice Chancellor, Subhash Chandra Das, who briefed the Governor regarding the status of the development of this project.

He expressed satisfaction regarding the status of the progress and mentioned that the upcoming institution will be able to start its academic activities towards the end of the year 2024.

He also visited the 16 No Pub Pati Darrang Adarsha Anganwadi Centre and interacted with the students. He also enquired about their experiences in the centre from the children while taking stock of the available resources and facilities of the organisation with an emphasis on quality education for the children which is essential for their proper growth. He also noted that education, especially at the grassroots level is an essential tool to ensure a good future for the children

The Governor then proceeded to the Tengani Tea Estate Model School and meet with Mukul Sharma, the Principal of the school. Apart from interacting with the students and teachers of the school, he enquired about the teacher-to-student ratio and discussed initiatives to reduce the dropout number among students.

He also visited the Amrit Sarovar Project and lauded the efforts towards livelihood generation and water conservation achieved by the project. He mentioned the need for proper fencing around the water body to ensure the safety of the children playing in the vicinity while encouraging more people to visit the same.

He also visited the Darrang Cancer Centre and distributed fruits and sweets among the patients admited there and took stock of the resources at the institution from the Medical Superintendent Dr Syed Iftikhar Suhani.

He also met up with the DC, SP and heads of other departments to take stock of various Central and State government schemes being implemented across the district.
