‘Guru Pujan’, Alumni’s Day mark golden jubilee celebration of Lakhimpur Commerce College

The second day of the ongoing golden jubilee celebration of Lakhimpur Commerce College was marked by various functions organized by the Alumni Association of the college.

LAKHIMPUR: The second day of the ongoing golden jubilee celebration of Lakhimpur Commerce College was marked by various functions organized by the Alumni Association of the college. The second day programmes of the celebrations began with a Diha Naam, performed by the non-teaching staff of the college. This was followed by the ‘Guru Pujan’ of all the retired teachers and current teaching staff of the college by the Lakhimpur Commerce College Alumni Association. A meeting was organized on that occasion which was chaired by Dr. Lohit Hazarika, Principal of the college and attended by Raj Kumar Saraf, Munin Saikia and Ramesh Bajaj, the president, secretary and treasurer of Lakhimpur Commerce College Alumni Association respectively.

The Alumni Association felicitated the first Principal of the college Dr Hemanta Kumar Baruah, retired Principals Binode Dutta, Dr. Mukut Chandra Baruah, retired professors Balo Bhadra Phookan, Dr. Bipin Kalita, Naren Sarma, Rameswar Taparia, Mahendra Hazarika, Nityananda Upadhyaya, Mahesh Bhagawati and Rajendra Prasad Bora, retired librarian Runima Sarma Baruah, retired Head Assistant Indramani Rajkumar, Parama Phukan and retired office staff Deba Dutta. The alumni association also felicitated all the current teaching and non-teaching staff of the college on that occasion. ‘Subashita Jeevan’, a biographical account of all retired teachers of the college, edited by Runjun Baruah, the college librarian and Mridushmita Hazarika, Assistant Professor of the Department of Assamese, was also inaugurated on that occasion.

The alumni-teachers meet was also addressed by Ashwini Madhab Dutta, outstanding alumnus and top executive of Reliance Industries, Dr. Muhidhar Pujari, president of governing body of the college and many others. A cultural programme was also organized by the alumni and current students of the college on that occasion. Thee entire session was anchored by Jadumani Baruah, alumni and Professor Dipul Baruah and Professor Bahni Sikha Bordoloi—both alumni of the college. In the evening, a cultural programme was organized where national award winning vocalist and musician Tarali Sarma performed.
