Guwahati: AAP Volunteers Stage Protest Against Price Rise; Detained By Police

Guwahati: The Assam police apprehended several leaders and workers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Assam on April 28 in Guwahati for holding protests over-inflating prices of commodities.

The fierce protest staged by the volunteers of the AAP's Assam unit was carried out at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting the state.

The AAP leaders and workers of Assam were detained from the Ganeshguri area near Dispur in Guwahati.

The Assam unit of the AAP took to their official Twitter handle to inform about their detention. They also embedded a short video clip in their tweet, where the protestors can be seen shouting slogans against the current ruling dispensation.

The detainees were taken to the Kahilipara-based camp of the 4th Assam police battalion in Guwahati. According to reports, the police dragged the Assam AAP leaders and workers in Guwahati while detaining them.

The AAP volunteers carried out this protest as a result of skyrocketing prices of fuel and other essential commodities. The agitated protestors were seen yelling slogans against the Centre, the Assam government and PM Modi.

Meanwhile, low-income households have been hit hard and are facing the brunt of the price hike. The common people have had to undergo hardships as a result of the increase in prices of cylinders, medicines, fuel, etc.

On the other hand, PM Modi, while reacting to the issue of rising fuel prices on April 27, shifted the blame to his opponents and appealed to the opposition ruled states to deduct tax on fuel.
